Its been nearly 9 months since starting & registering (and paying for!) this website, Milepost 81. I’ve been taking classes in online publishing and learning how to navigate the site, adding material and downloading photos and media.
My goal since last September was to build a site that could serve as a faith-based resource for families facing unforeseen circumstances. For parents of abuse victims. For people of all backgrounds to use as a reference (and hopefully encouragement!) when life goes sideways.
Full disclosure: I am not a counselor, not a pastor, not a lawyer or a therapist. I am just another father of the Anabaptist faith with a large family that has navigated through some very unique situations in life.
I was a young teenage “transplant” into the conservative anabaptist circles, only to be pushed out 20+ years later. I’ve struggled with mental health disorders that went largely undiagnosed for years. I struggled with financial loss in the recession of 2009/10. Our family suffered a blow in early 2020 (before the COVID-19 was even a thing) when we learned of sexual assaults that took place in our home.
So yes, its safe to say I’ve seen and experienced some things. This website will help me to share those experiences with others who are struggling. I hope Milepost 81 can be a valuable resource to you and your family. God bless.
