My Journey

My name is Steve and I am the owner and administrator of milepost81.com. One of the three goals of this website is to document the many unusual and unique challenges and situations that I have experienced personally, as well as those of my family. My goal is to be an encouragement to others, to perhaps bring a smile to your face, and most importantly to glorify God for the grace he has blessed us with.

By way of introduction, I was born and raised outside of Lititz, Pennsylvania on a small farm. I am a graduate of Warwick High School. I spent the early part of my teenage years attending a Church of the Brethren. At around age 16 or 17, I became curious and began to wonder if there was more to church life, and so I began visiting other Anabaptist churches in our area. I eventually found myself attending a local Dunkard Brethren congregation and soon took up membership there.

Not long after, I met my wife Brenda at that church. A courtship soon began as I learned about most everything “conservative anabaptist.” I had taken up employment for a Mennonite-owned woodshop where I made many new friends, as well as taking on a lifestyle that was boggling yet fascinating at the same time. After courting for some time, Brenda and I became engaged and I moved away from home to a farmhouse outside of Manheim, Pennsylvania, where we planned to set up housekeeping once we were married.

Brenda and I married in the summer of 1997. Over a year later, we were blessed with a newborn son. That following fall, we moved to Lebanon County and have been residents in that area ever since. The family continued to grow as the years past. Our last bundle of joy didn’t stop with one blessing, but two!

Besides working in the wood craftsman industry, I have worked in construction as an electrician, and my current occupation in the food industry on a distribution level. I’ve also been a real estate investor, a landlord, volunteer firefighter, a certified EMT (both paid & volunteer), as well as various “side hustles” as opportunities presented.  My interests include reading, cooking for our family, and of course, writing any chance I can get. We are members of Middle Creek Church located outside of Ephrata, Pennsylvania.
