As the couple drove home later that evening, the husband simply shook his head.
What on God’s green earth did we just witness?
Obvious sexual misconduct, rape of a child at that, just blown off with the wave of a hand.
This isn’t right.
Someone needs to look into this.
The victims need justice.
They need closure.
The perpetrators need to be held accountable.
Both the husband and the wife started wonder about other things that had taken place within that church that didn’t seem to have logical explanations: a minister that was silenced mysteriously. Men that had their membership revoked yet their wives weren’t. Families who have attending for years and applied for membership, yet they never hear anything. Various points in time when multiple families suddenly stop attending all at once. The list seemed endless.
Inquiries to the leadership were met with the same deft swoop of the hand.
The revoked memberships?
There were issues in the marriage. It’s a sad situation.
The silenced minister?
He wasn’t silenced! Who told you he was silenced? Brother James? Sister Sue? Who is telling you this?
And the family that applied for membership?
The ministry is working with that family. The father has a “history” you know!
The mass exodus this past summer?
There was a decision made in a church council meeting that caused those families to leave. That simple. No need pursuing it.
The husband and wife started seeing patterns and trends. Every question was met with a quick and sharp response.
