Some years back our family raised rabbits. Pedigreed or “papered” rabbits as they are referred to. Anyways, anyone who has ever had rabbits knows that besides the rabbits themselves, your next biggest investment will be cages or a hutch. Yes, there are other means to raise happy rabbits such as in a colony, but either way rabbits need a confined environment. Why? For their own safety. It’s not that a rabbit owner doesn’t want his rabbits to be happy, or enjoy themselves. But to let a rabbit explore the world unfettered, where a hungry predator is lying in wait, is nothing but a death sentence for the rabbit. A rabbit cage doesn’t just keep the rabbit in, but it will keep a predators from making a meal out of the rabbit.
Our earliest memories included “do’s & don’ts” that our parents tried to instill on us. Instructing a toddler not to touch a hot stove burner is one that comes to my mind: our parents knew what could result if we didn’t obey. If we went against their orders and touched a hot burner, we were sure not to do that again! As we grow older and the authority over us may no longer included just our parents, but teachers, and later, an employer and maybe even others- the “do’s & don’ts” become more serious… with consequences of disobedience just as serious. We can choose to respect the authority and stay in the “cage” that was put around us. Or we can defy that authority thinking we have freedom, only to be attached by a hungry predator lying in wait.
Remember, rules and regulations (the cage) do not exist to keep us from be happy and enjoying life, but to keep the evil of this world (the predators) from devouring us! May God add His blessing. – Steve
